🐾 Wildlife Explorers at ESY! 🐾
This week in Mrs. Caneen’s class, our students became wildlife explorers! We learned all about animals—both native to West Virginia and some from faraway places. Using descriptive language, students practiced identifying animal characteristics and grouping them into the five classes of vertebrates: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.
Our older students took their exploration a step further by venturing outside to investigate the area around the school. With notebooks in hand, they recorded field notes on the local wildlife, working like real scientists to spot species specific to our region.
We also added a splash of creativity to our week by making butterfly feeders! Students had a blast getting crafty, and we’re all looking forward to attracting some beautiful visitors to observe up close.
To top it off, we played some new, exciting learning games that brought plenty of smiles and laughter.
We’re so proud of our young scientists and can’t wait to see what next week brings!

Abby Bloom recently represented Wetzel County Schools at The Governor’s School of Tourism. Abby traveled with students from each county in the state to learn about all that West Virginia has to offer. The beautiful scenery, many activities and unique state parks were explored. Students experienced a behind the scenes look at the tourism industry, got to ask questions about employment opportunities and met several college presidents. Abby says, “ I learned about so many opportunities available right here in West Virginia. I was able to try multiple activities and meet so many people across the state. I would tell other students from WCS to apply next year!”💚🤍
