Great Schools Require Great People 🍎

The Wetzel County Schools Renewal Levy helps us:

• Provide employee dental and vision benefits
• Offer salary supplements
•Attract/Retain quality teachers and staff
• Keep experienced educators in our classrooms

This renewal allows Wetzel County Schools to stay competitive with neighboring counties — so we can continue attracting and keeping strong educators for our students.

On May 12, voters will decide whether to continue supporting the people who support our children every single day.
Together, we can continue investing in the future of Wetzel County.

West Virginia is launching its first-ever Teen Mental Health Awareness Week from March 2–6, marking a historic statewide effort to address the growing concerns surrounding adolescent mental health.

March 2 is nationally recognized as World Teen Mental Wellness Day, and this year, Governor Morrisey has expanded that recognition by proclaiming a full week dedicated to teen mental health awareness, education, and prevention efforts across the Mountain State.

Throughout the week, a comprehensive digital toolkit will be available at http://teenmentalhealthwv.org/. The toolkit includes downloadable resources, conversation guides, and information about training opportunities designed for educators, families, and youth-serving organizations.

Let’s work together to support, educate, and empower our teens. 💚

📊 RAND Report Update The RAND Corporation presented findings on West Virginia’s school funding formula and how it could be modernized to better support high-need students. WV ranks: • 5th in students with disabilities • 8th in families living in poverty • 48th in NAEP achievement The report recommends moving to a student-weighted funding model and increasing state aid so districts serving high-need students receive appropriate support. It also notes the HOPE Scholarship could exceed $100 million annually without eligibility changes. Key Takeaway: Enrollment is declining due to population trends and the HOPE Scholarship. Wetzel County Schools will continue adjusting while supporting updates to the funding formula that better serve our students. #WetzelCountySchools #PublicEducation

What Is HB 5433?
A bill that would require all WV insurance plans — including PEIA & private insurance — to cover hearing aids and essential audiology services.
👂 What the Bill Covers
1️⃣ Hearing Aids
Replacement every 36 months
Ensure new devices are available and covered up to $1,400/ear when medically needed
Up to $1,400 per ear (families can upgrade & pay the difference)
2️⃣ Audiology Services
Hearing tests
Hearing aid evaluations
Fittings & adjustments
Annual audiological exam
3️⃣ Fair Coverage
No special penalties
Same deductibles/rules as other medical services
Why This Matters
Hearing aids often cost $2,500–$3,500 per ear
Many WV families cannot afford essential hearing technology
Untreated hearing loss affects communication, safety, work, learning & independence
Coverage helps children, adults, and seniors statewide
How You Can Help
✔ Leave a public comment supporting the bill
✔ Share how hearing health affects you, your family, your job, or your community
✔ Encourage others to speak up
🔗 Add your public comment here:
https://www.wvlegislature.gov/Bill_Status/Bills_history.cfm?input=5433&year=2026&sessiontype=RS&btype=bill
Sample Comment
“I strongly support HB 5433 because hearing healthcare is essential for people of all ages. Many families cannot afford hearing aids, even when medically necessary. This bill would make hearing care accessible and affordable for all West Virginians.”
✅ Bottom Line
HB 5433 = Access, affordability, and better hearing health for EVERY West Virginian.
