Great opportunity for middle school students!

Our students put their creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork to the test with a bridge construction and weight-testing challenge! Working collaboratively, they designed and built bridges, then tested how much weight each structure could hold. This hands-on project encouraged critical thinking, engineering skills, communication, and a little friendly competition along the way. We love seeing our Eagles collaborate, take risks, and learn through meaningful STEM activities! 💙💛

Today, Mr. Melott’s third-period class earned a special reward and visited Mrs. Melott’s Kindergarten classroom for a fun learning activity! Mrs. Melott’s class has been completing a Mo Willems author study, so the students worked together to compare and contrast a real-life pigeon with the famous pigeon from Mo Willems’ books. They used a Venn diagram to organize their thinking and had a great time making connections between reading and the real world! 🐦📚

Today was one of those days that reminds us why school communities are so special. 💙💛 Our Pre-K students celebrated one of their very first milestones — standing proudly in their caps and gowns, full of excitement for all that is ahead. On that very same day, our high school graduates returned to walk our halls one more time, closing a chapter that began with moments just like these. From tiny caps to senior gowns, every step matters. Every hallway, classroom, teacher, smile, and memory becomes part of the journey. Today, we celebrated the beginning and the almost-end — and both were beautiful reminders that once you are an Eagle, you are always an Eagle. 🦅

Learning took us outside today! 🌿➕ Mrs. Cain's 5th grade students collected items from nature and used them to create math equations. Each item had a specific value, and students were challenged to build equations that matched four different target totals. It was a fun, hands-on way to practice problem solving, critical thinking, and math skills while enjoying the outdoors! 🍃📚

Our preschool leaders have been working hard on their Leader in Me goal: Everyone will complete the packing-up routine independently! After showing responsibility and proving they could do it without help, they earned a special reward — painting rocks for the front flower bed! We are so proud of our youngest Eagles for being proactive and taking ownership of their routines. 💙💛🎨🪨

How fun is this?! Mrs. Pilant’s first grade class brought the election process to life by holding their very own classroom election for the new high school mascot! Students created voter registration cards, cast their votes, graphed the results, and discussed the outcome together. After all the votes were counted, the Wolves came out on top! What an exciting, hands-on way for our young Eagles to learn about voting, data, and making their voices heard!

Hands-on learning in action! Mrs. Heil had Mr. Bell’s class up and moving as they practiced plotting points on a floor grid. Students were able to bring math to life by becoming part of the coordinate plane and working together to locate points.

8th Graders

On May 5th, Mr. Yoho and Mr. Trimmer brought their VEX V5 team to New Martinsville School to meet with the New Martinsville Competitive Robotics teams. The high school students discussed the V5 robots and game with the middle schoolers. The New Martinsville student got a chance to see the V5 parts and drive the robot.

On May 7th, Mrs. Pilant's First Grade class came and visited Miss Landis's Sixth grade science class. On this special day, the first graders shared their Solar System projects with the sixth graders. The actively engaged in scientific exploration and discussions on the various planets in our solar system.

Molly the Therapy Dog has officially given the Eagle Drink from Taste Bud Eats two paws up! 🐾💙💛 She says it’s refreshing, school-spirit approved, and pairs perfectly with being the goodest girl at NMS. No worries—she only sniff-tested… but her approval rating is 100%! 🦅🥤

Our first graders enjoyed taking pictures in nature and learning how to use them in iMovie with the help of Wetzel County TIS, Mrs. Hale. They created simple videos using their photos and had fun exploring technology in a creative way.

After reading “Kitten’s First Full Moon” and learning about the day and night sky, our first graders made solar system projects and shared them with the sixth grade students. They were excited to talk about the planets and show off their hard work. It was a fun way for students of different ages to learn together.

From comforting students when they are sick or hurt, to helping families, supporting staff, and handling countless behind-the-scenes needs, Jackie and Donna always show up with kindness and professionalism. We are so thankful for the way they help keep New Martinsville School safe, healthy, and cared for.
