Fourth graders embarked on a journey back in time when they visited the Historic Fort Steuben – a reconstructed 18th century fort built on its original site overlooking the Ohio River. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights into early American history and fort life.

On Friday, May 23 New Martinsville School will be hosting a Summer Bash with beach volleyball, dancing, cornhole, pizza, and drinks from 6:30-8:30.

A huge shoutout to our talented Cherika Vaughn for the face painting, Westfall’s Bubble Wagon for donating their time and their gigantic bubbles, Mountaineer Bounce for making the trip from Doddridge County to set up the inflatables and the dunk tank, and to Snobiz n' More for stopping by to offer cool treats! 🍧

As a Heart Safe School, NMS has met critical requirements including:
• CPR/AED training for staff
• Emergency response planning
• Accessible and functional AEDs on campus
• Ongoing education about heart health and emergency readiness
This recognition highlights the steps we’ve taken to ensure a swift and effective response in the event of a cardiac emergency. We are grateful to our school nurse, staff, and local partners who have helped make this possible.

Dear Families,
Tomorrow is NMS Relay for Life!
All students will be walking the track for the first 15 minutes before participating in various activities. There will be free stations for students to enjoy, as well as activities raising funds for Relay for Life.
If you are sending money with your student for tickets, please label their envelope with their name. If you'd like to provide money for an additional student, kindly indicate that on the envelope.
There will be inflatables available for students to jump on with a wristband costing $2, games will be $1 each, the dunk tank will be $1 for three throws to dunk a staff member, and face painting will cost $1. Sno Biz will also be available for $4.
In case of rain, activities will be moved indoors. If that happens, we will only have one inflatable and no dunk tank.

We are proud to celebrate the achievements of our 6th-8th graders who exhibited exemplary behavior and academic performance during the third nine weeks. Their recent tour of the Carnegie Science Center provided them with a fantastic opportunity to engage with interactive science exhibits, fostering a love for STEM.

This morning, Mrs. Pilant’s first grade class hosted a heartfelt celebration for Mother’s Day—Muffins with Moms or a Special Women in your life! Students welcomed their honored guests with smiles and proudly presented them with a rose. The class read a sweet poem, sang a touching song, and shared a special breakfast together. It was a beautiful way to honor the incredible women who support and love our students every day. Thank you to all who joined us and made the morning so memorable! #eaglementality
NMS Celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week
NMS celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week with a delightful array of food trucks each day, along with tasty treats generously provided by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
A heartfelt thank you to the NMS PTO, Heavenly Hoagies, Saguaros, The Munchies Truck, So Nuts 4 Donuts, Carries Catering and Stuffed Good Food for making this week special. Our staff truly enjoyed the festivities and the delicious offerings!
Eighth grader, Lindsey Barcus represented NMS at the WV Young Writers Day in Charleston last Friday. She was recognized for her outstanding story and had the opportunity to participate in writing workshops alongside published authors from across the state.
Mrs. Ritz’s class brought vocabulary to life today! Students worked in teams to define words, draw them, and sort examples vs. nonexamples—then proudly shared their learning! #ScienceOfReading #WordWorkInAction
