Mrs. Walton gave our PK students an unforgettable experience this week—a chance to see a baby chick that just recently hatched! Their faces lit up with curiosity as they got an up-close look at the fluffy little visitor. The students were so excited, they even came up with names like Bob, Chrysallus, and Sparkles! Today at NMS, the YWCA made a powerful impact on our middle school students by leading a discussion on recognizing unhealthy relationships. Students learned the importance of setting boundaries, identifying red flags, and seeking support when needed. These are crucial life lessons, and we’re grateful to the YWCA for helping empower our students with knowledge and confidence!
Congratulations to Dylan Nice for being recognized as a county winner for the Golden Horseshoe Award. The Golden Horseshoe is a long-standing West Virginia tradition dating back to 1931 that honors eighth grade students who excel in West Virginia history. Winning eighth-grade students are honored during a one-day ceremony held in Charleston. At least two students from each county, one from each charter school, and one from the West Virginia Schools for the Deaf and the Blind are selected for the award. The honorees can also tour the State Capitol and West Virginia Culture Center while in Charleston.
The high point of the Golden Horseshoe Ceremony is the induction of the students into the Golden Horseshoe Society. The State Superintendent of Schools dubs students a Knight of the Golden Horseshoe Society with a tap of a sword on the shoulder. Each student receives a Golden Horseshoe pin and a place within a continuing tradition. We are so proud of you, Dylan ! Pictures are Dylan and Mr. Volin, his West Virginia History teacher at NMS.

Parents and guardians will be able to see their students’ (Grades 3-8) West Virginia General Summative Assessment results online this spring. Starting April 7, 2025, student results will begin appearing in the View My Results site. For most students, the results of each test will be available 24 hours after completing the ELA, math, or science tests.

Yesterday at NMS, the egg hunt was ON! Students searched high and low, because those sneaky eggs were everywhere! No place was off-limits. Laughter and lots of excitement filled the air as students scrambled to find every last egg. What a fun way to hop into spring!
