Christine Mitchell, WCS Board of Education member and Hope Gas employee, was instrumental with HHS becoming a Community Partner with Hope Gas. HHS Principal, Mr. Wilson applied for a grant with Hope Gas in the amount of $3000 to go to clothing, food, and school supplies. The principal started the Hornet Pride Program at Hundred High School to help student's basic needs. Mr. Wilson spoke on the importance of the community partnership, "We are proud to be a community partner with Hope Gas. This money will go a long way to help our students. I want to thank Mrs. Mitchell and Hope Gas for all they do for the students of Hundred and Wetzel County." #thankful #Wetzelcs #community

Mrs. Walker, our school librarian, has a really cool display in the library again this year! Featuring a carnival theme, the display has been in the works since last year. It took her two weeks to put together, with the help of her husband. They both really had fun building it. When asked how it works, she said, "It is imagination powered!" In terms of the student response to the display, Mrs. Walker said that all of the classes really like it, but Pre-K seems to be the most enthusiastic about it. Be sure to check it out! 9th grade students in Mr. Sapp and Mrs. Sapp’s Humanities 9 (World Studies & English 9) classes culminated their first geography and economics unit by creating their own island nations. Students were tasked with using the skills they learned to create a unique country and design a map, including a minimum of five cities and five landforms. Next, students will compete in an economic game to buy, sell, and trade resources with each other, using their knowledge to try to earn the most profit in order to win the game. Check out some of these student-created maps!

From the Board of Education Office: 🎥 The recordings of last night's Wetzel County Schools Board Meetings are now available on our YouTube channel with higher sound quality. While the livestream went smoothly, we're excited to share an even better audio experience in the posted videos.

Due to a Frontier internet outage, tonight's BOE meeting will be live-streamed using a cell phone. The meetings will be recorded and posted with clearer audio once internet connectivity is restored. We apologize for this inconvenience, but are doing our best to provide live-coverage as well as improved audio at a later time.
