🎥 The recordings of last night's Wetzel County Schools Board Meetings are now available on our YouTube channel with higher sound quality. While the livestream went smoothly, we're excited to share an even better audio experience in the posted videos.
Due to a Frontier internet outage, tonight's BOE meeting will be live-streamed using a cell phone. The meetings will be recorded and posted with clearer audio once internet connectivity is restored. We apologize for this inconvenience, but are doing our best to provide live-coverage as well as improved audio at a later time.

Yesterday, LDS Kindergarten (Mrs. Tennant) and 2nd Grade (Mrs. Cumberledge) did an experiment with crayons. They wanted to see how quickly they would melt in the hot outdoor weather. Kindergarten attached their crayons to a white sheet of paper, while 2nd grade attached theirs to a black sheet of paper. Kindergarten used only Cayola brand, and 2nd grade used Roseart and Crayola. Kindergarten's crayons didn't melt as much as 2nd grade's. Of the different brands, they discovered that the Roseart crayons melted the fastest. Ultimately, they determined that the color of the paper determined how much light from the sun was absorbed or reflected--white paper reflected the light/heat and the black paper absorbed the light/heat. That's why the crayons on the white paper laster longer! Great job everyone!

Wetzel County staff attended a professional development day with guest speaker and author, Ruby K. Payne, Ph.D. Dr. Payne provided training and resources on the “10 Actions to Educate Students” from her book, A Framework for Understanding Poverty.

Todays summer academy at NMS on Technology was well attended and informative! Teachers actively participated in learning new and effective tools that can be used in their classrooms. Many of our teachers give up some of their summer days for professional development, and it does not go unnoticed, especially by the students who benefit!
