April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day – a special occasion to raise awareness about autism, promote inclusivity, and celebrate the unique and valuable contributions of individuals with autism. This day invites us to think about creating a world where everyone, no matter how they think or interact, feels seen, valued, and understood.

Today, Wetzel County Young Writers winners were honored at a reception at Quinet's Restaurant. The winners and two guests were invited to celebrate their outstanding writing accomplishments.
Retired teacher and author Brian Croasmun encouraged the young authors to find inspiration in unexpected sources. He advised them to keep a notebook to record ideas and wait for opportunities to use them in their writing. Students also received resources to help them advance their writing skills.
First-place winners will attend the Young Writers Day at the University of Charleston on Friday, May 2. They will participate in writing workshops, meet West Virginia authors, review their published works, and receive autographs. An awards ceremony will be held in the afternoon. A special thank you is extended to the teachers, board members, and county office staff who joined parents and students in celebrating this achievement. Congratulations!

The Wetzel County Technical Education Center hosted its third annual National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) induction today, March 25, 2025. At this ceremony, student inductees were recognized for their achievements in each of the following pillars of NTHS: Knowledge, Skill, Honesty, Service, Responsibility, Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership. All students inducted today have maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.5 GPA in all CTE classes. Parents, inductees, WCTEC staff, and county office personnel were all present for this ceremony. After the formal induction, students and their guests were invited to attend a reception that included coffee, tea, and cookies prepared by Baking & Pastry students in WCTEC's new state-of-the-art Pro-Start classroom, "The Hungry Coyote Café & Bakery", under the supervision of Chef Gary Cardelein. WCTEC director JC Kimble, NTHS Advisor Whitney Healy, and all other staff would like to thank all students, inductees, and guests for attending this event!
